Cyclists new highway code changes

Under the new rules, cyclists are now advised to ride in the centre of lanes on quieter roads, in slower-moving traffic, and when approaching junctions, to make themselves as visible as possible.
Can see the cycle lanes remaining empty? Just seems another anti driving rule and will cause accidents with impatient drivers overtaking.

Cyclists should pay road tax, only fair.
Drivers of all electric cars don't pay road tax. Would you charge them, too?

The Lycra Taliban have been riding 2 a breast for year around our way... noticed a load more this AM on the hound walk ... causing clog up's galore.... anyway at least they get to have a nice chat before killing themsleves hitting a pothole

When turning from main roads to side streets, you're already supposed to give way to pedestrians.
Not many people know this...
...or, at least, most behave as if they don't know this
Especially cyclists.

They have ALWAYS been the rules. The average driver is a thicko so they are just bringing this to your attention. Again.

I'm a cyclist, commuting and occasionally recreational.
These changes in the highway code baffle me.
The cycling two abreast on quieter roads will actually lead to chav c**ts thinking they have the right to cycle at 5mph pulling weelies alingside each other on main roads.
Through observasion over the years there are a lot of selfish pricks on the road both motor vehicles and cyclists. There are a high amount of motor vehicle drivers that have an attitude of 'I'm impatient and in a metal engine powered machine, who's coming off worse?'.
Yes, there are shit loads of cyclists jumping red lights and they get what they deserve if they get knocked off.
Its quite simple and common sense for all road users without the new codes.
Cyclists keep left, if you need to overtake another cyclist only do so when clear.
At red lights observe your position in the order if you have no clear route to the box at the front of the lights. Don't weave in and out the vehicles at the lights, and don't go through red lights.
If turning right at lights, again, when clear pull into position in the traffic and clearly indicate you intend to turn right.
In residential areas cars do park in cycle lanes so this is where cars need to give adequate room when overtaking a cyclist.
As for cars turning left at junctions having to give way to pedestrians crossing, this is only going to cause other road users going into the back of the vehicle giving way.
The new codes will only cause more accidents and confrontation.

How does this translate into driving in the middle of the lane all the time, or avoiding cycle lanes? Use some common sense, people.

Any cyclists that doesn't use a cycle lane and gets hit will get very little sympathy from me.,but generally accidents involving cars and bikes is down to the car driver Accidents with lorries/coachs tend to be the cyclists fault

How much money has been spent across the country in recent years installing cycle lanes ?
Now cyclists are being told that they don’t have to use them if they don’t fancy and can ride basically where they like.
Can we have all the cycle lanes removed then?

Given cyclists own self importance, ignoring red lights, going the wrong way down one way streets, not using lights at night, cycling on pavements and in pedestrian areas, they will take "quieter roads" to be all roads,

This is not a comment on cyclists but on cyclists weird fashion. I don’t believe 16stone Geoff shaves 0.00000127 seconds off his PB by wearing all the gear.

I think there is a certain amount of misinterpretation, some of it wilful. The new code states
"You can ride two abreast and it can be safer to do so, particularly in larger groups or when accompanying children or less experienced riders. Be aware of drivers behind you and allow them to overtake (for example, by moving into single file or stopping) when you feel it is safe to let them do so."
So cyclists are not advised to ride two abreast, but now may do so where it could be safer, but when faster vehicles approach from behind should allow safe overtaking.bu e.g. reverting to single file.
